Chris Wall - OB1-23We’re a rad bunch here, always up for a good time. So when our mates at OB1 told us they wanted to hold a dyno day we jumped on board to help out. It was all very much a last minute affair as far as organising events goes – just two weeks from inception through to cars angrily throwing down on the rollers. There was a bit of a worry about attendance figures because of this and also because the date fell on the 23rd of the month, usually people are waiting for payday before they go out and play. It seems people out there are starved for good events and so the turnout ended up being pretty damn decent. I think the venue also had something to do with this too though, the Kempton Park based KAR Performance dyno is widely regarded as a benchmark dyno – you can make good numbers on a dyno and quote the power to your mates over a cold one (beer, not dead person) at a braai and if the people listening are proper car people, you’ll usually hear the follow up question: “But what did it make at KAR?”

That’s not to say other dynos are wrong of course. It’s just that this dyno is well-known and some proper cars have been on it so it’s a great way to gauge what your car is doing compared to cars with similar mods. A dynomometer is merely a tuning tool after all, so if you do mods to a car and do before and after tests on the same dyno with the same settings and ambient conditions, your gains (or losses) can be accurately gauged. Chris Wall - OB1-208Well… The date, the cold start to the morning and the short time frame to promote the event were no problem at all. I got there at around 10:00 and I figured that since the start time was only an hour earlier that I’d get a close parking spot and snap pics of the few cars that pitched up early and then chill while waiting for more to come through. Kak idea. The road outside KAR was full, there were already loads of people there and a bunch of cars had already been on the rollers. Things didn’t let up either, I had to leave at 18:00, a good nine hours into the event and when I did there were easily 15 cars left in the queue. It was just nuts man, poor Shane from KAR was busy non-stop. Everyone involved with the event was surprised by the massive turnout, including Riaan, Tai and Imy from OB1.Chris Wall - OB1-64There were loads of pretty cars strewn about from all over the place and representing all the popular brands (and even some not so popular ones) and they could be found in all states of tune too from mild to absolutely freaking mental, representing most of the local tuning houses. As usual, we were on hand to check out all the VAG awesomeness which was plentiful and that’s what you see here. We don’t discriminate so pics of all the other rad cars seen on the day can be found in the Facebook album.

Now of course you want to know who made what power and from what I saw and what was left to be run when I left, I reckon the results sheet will show over 100 cars were tested, so as you can imagine, it will take a bit of time for the organisers to get them all sorted into a pretty spreadsheet. As soon as that happens, this post will be amended.  Chris Wall - OB1-165Chris Wall - OB1-333 Chris Wall - OB1-326 Chris Wall - OB1-323 Chris Wall - OB1-318 Chris Wall - OB1-259 Chris Wall - OB1-262 Chris Wall - OB1-289 Chris Wall - OB1-317 Chris Wall - OB1-258 Chris Wall - OB1-253 Chris Wall - OB1-247 Chris Wall - OB1-244Chris Wall - OB1-212 Chris Wall - OB1-228 Chris Wall - OB1-241 Chris Wall - OB1-203 Chris Wall - OB1-169 Chris Wall - OB1-160 Chris Wall - OB1-129 Chris Wall - OB1-133 Chris Wall - OB1-144 Chris Wall - OB1-156 Chris Wall - OB1-96 Chris Wall - OB1-87 Chris Wall - OB1-81Chris Wall - OB1-1Chris Wall - OB1-25 Chris Wall - OB1-50
