VWCSA Charity Picnic – VAG Cafe was there

Our mates at the Volkswagen Club of South Africa don't only host events to cater for the fanatics who like to drive fast on track or measure their car's power on a rolling road, they have a softer side that comes out often to raise money and help out charities. This event was aimed at the latter, and it was very well attended which leads me to believe that the Club is packed with animal lovers as this event was held to raise funds and collect food for Woodrock Animal Rescue. This...

Michelin Cup 2016 – Round 1 – Dyno Day at SV Tech

At the end of a year car fanatics are all usually 'evented' out and are happy for the break, but just two weeks in and everyone starts with some serious withdrawls, the result is that the first event usually rocks right. This one was no different, there were cars for days, from all walks of life, but here at VAG Cafe we're all about the VAG side of life as you well know. The event that took place was the first in a year-long series organised by the Renault Sport Club...

Did someone say gymkhana?

Yeah, they did, and it was the Volkswagen Club of SA. These guys host events for everyone, which I guess is why the club has so much support. The last one was all about drag racing and that's where the cars with power excel, but this event is more about car handling and driver skill than power. In fact, the more power you have on a wet skidpan, the worse off you are... The event was set to take place on RedStar Raceway's skidpan a good 100km from Randburg, and it was...

VWCSA Drag Day – VAG Cafe shot it

What's the point of having fast, modified streetcars if you don't have anywhere to play with them? Well that's exactly the reason our mates over at the Volkswagen Club of South Africa put together their We're Going Racing day. The venue chosen for the day of octane-filled fun was Odi Raceway in, well, the middle of nowhere. Besides fees to hire venues and all that jazz, the best reason for using this facility is the fact that many cars are making great power but aren't suited for 400m drags, they're better...

Completely Free Dyno Day – VAG Cafe attends

This past weekend was another VAG-related dyno day taking place. This time it was at Edenvale-based tuner Oettinger SA who collaborated with our mates at the Volkswagen Club of SA to bring VAG fans a pretty damn cool event. Most of these events are held on Saturdays but this one was on a Sunday, so my initial thoughts were that it would be a little bit on the quiet side of things. I luckily understimated the need for a good Sunday event, it was quite busy through the day with...

On Location: Polo Meet 2k15

Our mates over at Xclusiv Modz are known for hosting shows worth attending, and they've just done it again with Polo Meet 2k15. Main man Fa'eez decided to try and get a bunch of Polo drivers together to show off their rides. After all they've been around for many years now and can be found in all states of tune imaginable and are a popular choice since the Mk1 Golf went out of production. The range of these cars is huge, GTs, Vivos, GTis, TDis and all sorts in between....

My Car Got Shot – By VAG Cafe!

My car got shot - that's the name of the latest event hosted by the Volkswagen Club of South Africa. No, the name doesn't allude to a collection of people meeting up to show off bullet holes in their cars. While that's perfectly plausible in Jo'burg, it was all about getting photos of cars - that kind of shooting. After last year's successful Night Run Parkoff event, the Club decided to take it to a new level by making it all about getting photos of the awesome cars on display....

DubRun Tape-up 2015

The Volkswagen enthusiast community in South Africa is huge, like seriously big. It's divided into many different clubs all across the land, but the biggest and best is undoubtedly the Volkswagen Club of South Africa. The club was launched in the year of our original VAG forefather, the Mk1 Golf. Since 1983 the club has been offering brand enthusiasts a place to chat about all things VW, as well as organising events for the VW owners to not only socialise at, but to race at, safely off the streets. One of the...

FR&R Winter Dyno Day

Saturday the 5th June was the date set aside for the FR&R Winter Dyno Day and as usual, when an awesome VAG-related event comes along, VAG Cafe hops on board as one of the sponsors. Blues and his crew usually host successful events and this one promised to be just as good as the rest of them. Also, with the that cold front up from the Cape, even Pretoria felt the cooler temps. We all know that cooler temps means better power figures (I'd go into the scientific reason for that but...

OB1 Dyno Day at KAR Performance

We're a rad bunch here, always up for a good time. So when our mates at OB1 told us they wanted to hold a dyno day we jumped on board to help out. It was all very much a last minute affair as far as organising events goes - just two weeks from inception through to cars angrily throwing down on the rollers. There was a bit of a worry about attendance figures because of this and also because the date fell on the 23rd of the month, usually people...
