TVS-Engineering has pioneered developing DSG upgrades, hardware and software since 2005.
To be able to transmit more power either the maximum oil pressure has to be increased or the clutch has to be modified.
Since 2011, TVS has been providing worlds strongest DSG software, with oil pressures of up to 260-275 psi (around 620 Nm)!
For engines with torques of over 600 Nm we advice a reinforced clutch.
For heavy-duty applications, like a ¼ mile or circuit car, we strongly reccomend a race clutch, regardless of the power.
Do you often use launch control on your 4WD car? For cars above 550 Nm, we also suggest installing a race clutch.
We also provide software for Dodson or SSP clutches.
We deliver these with a set of extra tough friction plates to replace the original ones. For this, special software is required.
Besides that, we have also been providing our own custom race-clutches since 2008.
These clutches are different from the SSP/dodson ones because instead of tougher friction material, they use as much material as possible. The housing has to be modified for this type of clutch to be able increase the amount of friction plates. This same principle is used for HGP clutches, which are almost identical.
The drawback of lots of friction plates is that they cause too much clutch drag. This causes a lot of noise in the gearbox. Because the clutch doesn’t depress enough ‘clacking’ noises can be heard, as if a manual driver doesn’t properly depress the clutch pedal when switching gears. The challenge is to create a clutch that can diliver a lot of power (many friction plates) without dragging too much.
In our opinion we succeeded at that and we certainly think that our fully developed clutch is the best one available. Cars equipped with this clutch drive perfectly, without any noticeable sounds or vibrations.
In summary, TVS/HGP maxes out the surface area of the friction material, SSP/Dodson uses very tough material.
Disadvantages of tough friction material:
● A lot of vibrations when the clutch engages
● A lot of clutch pressure is required
Disadvantages of a lot of friction material:
● Increased clutch drag, lot’s of noise, switching gears rather rag.
