This is the most common fault with Generation 4 Haldex vehicles.
The filter clogs up, it burns the pump out – sometimes they still sort of work if you power them up, but if the pump does not measure around 5 to 9 ohms then it has failed.
There is also filter which according to VW/Audi is “fitted for life/non service item” which gets completely blocked by around 45k to 80k miles. It does not exist on the VW/Audi parts system and cannot be ordered from the dealer. We stock and sell them here, and it needs to be replaced when replacing the pump.
Most common fault code
00448 – Haldex Clutch Pump (V181) – 011 – Open Circuit – Intermittent
Obviously you need to do your own diagnostics and testing, but other fault codes we’ve seen with pump and filter failure are:-
01155 – Clutch – 003 – Mechanical Failure – Intermittent
02248 – Valve for Controlling Clutch Operating Angle (N373) – 014 Defective – Intermittent
