BMW vs VW – A German battle in Springs

This past weekend saw one of the cooler shows taking place, BMW vs VW, and VAG Cafe dropped in to see what's what. The event once again took place at Stable Inn in Springs, a pretty decent venue by all accounts, even with some sections of the field being cordoned off thanks to being waterlogged. That's not really a complaint either though, especially with many parts of the country going through a drought, but on the day it did mean the cars were parked on top of each other. Again,...

VAG Cafe rolled along for the VWCSA Midnight Run

When it came time to head out to the Midnight Run hosted by our good mates at the Volkswagen Club of South Africa, the weather was a little on the miff side with a healthy dose of rain and temperatures more reminiscent of a winter cold front. That's usually a bad thing, but in my experience it's pretty much fact that bad weather keep at least half of the possible attendees away, which means if the weather was great the chaos would have been on another level. With rain and...

When VWCSA hits the track, VAG Cafe is there!

If you're in the Volkswagen circles, you'll likely be aware of people complaining because most of the events the Volkswagen Club of South Africa holds exclude those with a track addiction, but with boss man Ian Foat back to steer the club again things have changed for the better. The latest event hosted by the Club took place at Laserfiche Raceway, more commonly known as VKC after the Vereeniging Kart Club, and it was brilliant from start to finish - but you knew that or you wouldn't see it on...

CampFest X – VAG Cafe attends SA’s premier VW show

If you're a self-professed Volkswagen fan and you haven't heard of Vdub Camp Fest then you should up your game. In fact, if you are a VW nutter and you have heard of SA's largest gathering of all things VAG but haven't attended - it's time to move on. There's not really any excuse for not attending, especially with Camp Fest X being the tenth installment. Missing all ten events can only mean that you simply like the brand and you'll never get into a shouting match or a fist...

OTF 2017 by Cape Stance – VAG Cafe was on scene

One of the most highly regarded events on the aftermarket scene in Cape goes by the name of Only The Fittest, and since inception in 2011 it's been getting better and better. VAG Cafe was in Cape Town over December when the event, hosted by CapeStance, and made a point of attending to check out how the Cape's show scene compares to the Jozi scene - with a focus on all things VAG of course. With a few years of this show in the bag we expected a great venue with...

Dragwars 2k17 – VAG Cafe & Revo Technik invade!

This Dragwars event has been anticipated for some time now. there have been plenty online arguments about who rules the roost and the event would be the perfect place to test this out, not forgetting also the giving guys a chance to take up challenges that have popped up since the last event. This, and the fact that many events at Tarlton International Raceway have fallen away because of some politics we don't really care about, Dragwars promised to be quite the busy event. Then some people decided to host...

VWCSA’s Xmas in July – VAG Cafe stopped by.

The Volkswagen Club of South Africa's latest event was called Christmas in July and it promised to be an event of epic proportions. There was to be a Show & Shine, an install competition and of course, a dyno session. The event was partnered up with some well-known industry names like Delarey Racing Developments, Lindsay Saker Edenvale, Global Air Brakes, Speed & Sound Magazine, DJ Vin Deysel and the hosts, Oettinger SA. VAG Cafe too, because that's how we roll. The event was billed to kick off at 09:00 and...

VAG Cafe checked in at Jozi Kxlektive 6.0

It's actually mad how fast time flies, but this Jozi Kxlektive movement has been going for a year now, and this 6th one is the 1st to re-use a venue. It makes sense though as the Velmore Hotel is a rather picturesque spot. If you're a follower of the various local motoring pages you may have seen a few online arguments with regards to the JK events, but remaining as a sort of Switzerland means that VAG Cafe can attend and see some wicked rides. We're not sure if it's...

Germany vs. Japan – VAG Cafe took a look

There's a few big shows on the calendar that feature a strong contingent of VAG cars; VDub Camp Fest, BMW vs. VW and Germany vs. Japan by the O.Gs at Southside Crew. This weekend it was the turn of the latter, and the show was bigger and better than expected. I mean yeah, we knew there would be a good turnout, but even with some pretty nippy weather, the annual show produced the biggest turnout to date. Of course the Germany side includes plenty BMWs too, but the Volkswagens and...

VWCSA DubRun 2k17 – The Tape Up

It's hard to believe, but  this year's DubRun that's hosted by the Volkswagen Club of SA is the tenth incarnation of the event. Yeah, it's ten years strong, and is now one of the most anticipated events on the motoring calendar in SA at a club level. This is one for the true enthusiast, it's not like your normal Sunday breakfast run, this one requires planning, time off work and a fair bit of money. The guys who attend are the serious ones and most have all their ducks in...
