BBS. Established in 1970. With its 50th Anniversary coming next year, the world’s best-known premium light-alloy wheel brand kicks off its Jubilee Year celebrations at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas (November 5 to 8th, 2019), and the Essen Motor Show (November 29th to December 8th, 2019). Further presence at trade and public shows and events is planned for 2020.
In 1970, Heinrich Baumgartner and Klaus Brand founded a small production facility for plastic body parts in the tranquil Black Forest village of Schiltach. Baumgartner – Brand – Schiltach. The initials of the two founders and the place combined to form the company name BBS.
Three years later, the visionary Heinrich Baumgartner developed and manufactured a novel three-piece, lightweight alloy wheel for motorsport applications. Within a few years, this light and strong wheel technology had asserted itself as a pre-requisite for motorsport success. From these roots a company of international repute went from strength-to-strength, the BBS name a synonym for sporty alloy wheels.
The annual SEMA Show in Las Vegas is the world’s largest trade fair for car accessories and tuning. This year the BBS exhibition at SEMA can be found in the prestigious Central Hall (Booth # 24219) where their 50th Anniversary logo will be presented along with the world premiers of four exclusive edition wheels.
These new designs, the FI-R, CI-R, CH-R II and XR, will each be shown in the limited edition colour scheme of satin bronze. The automotive model on the stand will be a McLaren 570S, wearing BBS FI-R wheels on one side, and BBS LM on the other.
In addition to this uniquely elegant colour, exclusive 50th Anniversary centercaps distinguish the special Jubilee models of the Forged Line, Performance Line and Design Line. The Anniversary wheels from the Performance and Design Lines can be optionally equipped with the patented BBS collision protection ring in all available colours.
For the Essen Motor Show, BBS will debut the above-mentioned Anniversary models along with new colour variations of the XR design. The highlight of the BBS stand in Hall 7 (Stand 7E13) is the new Porsche 911 Speedster in the “Heritage Edition” fitted with the FI-R in the limited edition satin bronze finish.
BBS is the world’s best known and most highly regarded light-alloy wheel brand, a fact confirmed by awards from leading German and international automotive trade publications. Consistent quality at every stage of manufacture – from casting and forging to surface finishing, with a highly controlled temperature regime crucial to the strength of the aluminium – is a BBS hallmark. Only environmentally friendly paints are used in a process that guarantees OEM quality for premium vehicle manufacturers.
