What’s the point of having fast, modified streetcars if you don’t have anywhere to play with them? Well that’s exactly the reason our mates over at the Volkswagen Club of South Africa put together their We’re Going Racing day. The venue chosen for the day of octane-filled fun was Odi Raceway in, well, the middle of nowhere. Besides fees to hire venues and all that jazz, the best reason for using this facility is the fact that many cars are making great power but aren’t suited for 400m drags, they’re better with their legs stretched and a standing kilometer sprint is what Odi offers.

The day started off bright and early for some (well, only really me, I arrived at the track about an hour before anyone else) and promised to be a good day out. The club restircted entires to 50 and I’m sure the majority of those slots were filled but I didn’t do a physical headcount myself. Members of the public and non-racers pulled through too, their entry fee being a monetary donation or some old clothes or food that was to be collected for a few charities for https://www.acheterviagrafr24.com/viagra-generique-forum-teva/ kids and the eldery in the area. By the time I made my way home, there were two car loads full of donated goods, so besides everyone having a good time out, those less priveliged scored too. This is why I like this club so much. Nice people.
Being a limited entry event meant that it wasn’t too busy and those who did make it to the track were able to get in a good number of runs. Cars representing all the popular tuners were seen on the strip and there was some pretty damn fast stuff around. Ian’s aired out, Revo’d 6R was running great. The man has one of the best pullofs Ive seen in a car with launch control. Another bagged car was racing, Gareth’s Mk5 GTi, but it was too low and kept interfering with the start lights – Thug Life yo! There were quite a few fast turbo diesels running on the day too, not that you could really see them after the pull off – it looked like a veld fire blowing across the track, but sounded great. The fastest VW of the day was a surprise and came from the RGM stable, a crew known for tuning BMWs. With well-known racer at the wheels, the R ran a pretty damn quick 11.6-seconds on the quarter. A neat turbocharged Mk1 also ran well as did a bunch of cool N/A cars, a Goldwagen Delarey Caddy and a few very neat Mk2 Golfs.
As usual, the event was open to anyone who wanted to attend and not just VWs, and this meant there were a few Japanses brands in the mix as well and an Opel or two. Actually, make that just one Opel. Satish was there in his Speed & Sound Mag Kadett T car. He ran strong on the 400m and was gunning for a 290km/h top end but had 5th gear problems leaving him in the 270s. He had a better 400m speed than his last outing and so was still happy with his outing. Tiaan’s Subaru was looking good too, but one of my favs of the day was Warren’s Series 6 / FD RX-7. That rotary burble – praap does things to my nether regions.
It was a brilliant day out, good times and speeds were achieved, good times were had and a few personal bests happened. It was another great day with great people. When the reuslt are available, I’ll add them to this post and the Facebook page. We’ll see you at the next VAG-related event because that’s what VAG Cafe is all about – spreading the love of VAG!
As usual, catch the full ablum of pics on our Facebook page.
